Permanent residents must ensure they have a valid PR card when entering Canada. PR Cards are issued for permanent residents, and they can be extended every 5 years unless the permanent resident status has been voluntarily renounced or they do not meet the residential obligations. Permanent residents of Canada can eventually apply for citizenship if they meet some eligibility criteria including having lived in Canada for 3 years (1,095 days) out of 5 years. Before applying though, the applicants aged 18 to 54 must submit a language proficiency test of CLB 4 or higher and pass a citizenship test.
